Travelling by train in Ethiopia
The commitment of Podo e.V. in Ethiopia rests on many shoulders. This should be acknowledged in a special way.
By the 8.-12.10.22 five employees and Christel Ahrens have travelled to the east of the country. They have taken up residence in Diredawa. There, after the cold Addis Ababa, they were happy about warm temperatures and cheap shopping opportunities.
An hour away from Diredawa is Harar. With more than 1000 In years of history, Harar is the oldest city in Ethiopia. The old town is particularly worth seeing and it offered a nice backdrop for many photos, which can now be viewed on social media.
Equally impressive was Stella, a one-year-old organization for outpatient care for chronically ill people. Stella's approach has some similarities with the work of Podo e.V.. Employees don't wait for it, that people come to them, who in turn have to wait a long time, but they make their own way to the people. Their work is not about expensive drugs and therapies, but to educate and promote the self-help potential of the people concerned.
They went back by train through a very green savannah landscape ... past camels, Herds of goats and nomadic villages. The trip marks the beginning of a new working year after a long rainy season and will certainly be remembered fondly by everyone.
